A comprehensive renovation and extension of a Victorian terrace in Fulham, London.
The project reimagines a traditional family home through a series of carefully considered interventions, including a rear extension, loft addition, and complete interior transformation. By combining contemporary architecture with the character of the existing building, the design creates generous, light-filled spaces that respond to the needs of modern living.
The ground floor extension is conceived as a contemporary insertion within the historic context, employing a ventilated rainscreen façade system to achieve a highly insulated building envelope and a refined, modern appearance. Large openings strengthen the connection between the living spaces and the garden, bringing natural light deep into the plan.
Inside, the project explores the integration of digital fabrication within a domestic setting. Custom lighting elements are developed using 3D-printed ceramic components, introducing crafted architectural details that combine traditional materiality with emerging manufacturing techniques. Throughout the house, all joinery has been designed as bespoke pieces, carefully tailored to the spatial requirements of each room. Developed within a constrained budget, the project demonstrates how custom design, material efficiency, and thoughtful detailing can deliver a highly individual home without relying on excessive finishes or cost.
Particular attention was given to materiality, natural light, and the relationship between house and garden, resulting in a home that feels calm, contemporary, and deeply connected to its surroundings.
